There is a Persona 3 Reload Release Date! Learn everything there is to know about the remake of Atlus’ classic RPG.
Atlus has decided to bless us with the greatest gift in all of gaming. A full-scale remake of Persona 3 not only brings the visuals to a modern standard but also combines elements from all versions into what might be the definitive version of this story.
And there is a lot to it, so here is everything you need to know about the Persona 3 Remake.
What is Persona 3 Reload?
Persona 3 Reload is a remake of Persona 3’s (P3) original 2006 release which has since been locked to the PlayStation 2 and the port of the PSP version Persona 3 Portable.
It can not be understated how important that release was for Atlus. P3 was the first game in the Persona franchise, which itself was a spin-off series of the Shin Megami Tensei series, that adopted the style of RPG that would make it famous. A mix of Light Novel, Dating Sim, and Turn-based RPG with just a dance of pseudo-science and philosophy.
The Remake called Persona 3 Reload seems to bring the best parts of all interactions of this story, with the same style and visual excellence Atlus has perfected with Persona 5.
But why Remake Persona 3? Well, the original is this weird quirky RPG with a lot of ideas and kinks that would be ironed out in the following installments. But its story and world are arguably the best Atlus have ever delivered and are the reason why Persona 3 will often pop up on “The Greatest RPGs of All Time” lists.
Persona 3 Reload Story
Persona 3 tells the story of the protagonist (commonly referred to as Makoto Yuki) who attends Gekkoukan High School in the year 2009. His arrival coincides with a concerning number of people in Iwatodai losing their will to live due to something called “Apathy Syndrome.”
The protagonist quickly becomes aware of a phenomenon called the Dark Hour, an extra hour of the day only a few are privy to. In order to solve the mystery of the Dark Hour and the Shadows causing the Apathy Syndrome the protagonist joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES) alongside some of his classmates.
Now the player has to juggle their obligations as a student, their social life, and saving the world from creepy shadow creatures alongside a cast of memorable characters.
Persona 3 Reload Release Date
Persona 3 Reload is expected to be released on February 2, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In the lead-up to the release, the team promised to make new information and trailers about the game available every Full Moon up to the release.
Persona 3 Reload Gameplay
Little is known about the gameplay of Persona 3 Reload at this point. We do know that most of the original game’s content will return, but extra content such as the Epiloge of Persona 3 FES and the female protagonist route from Persona 3 Portable won’t make a return.
Things like the exhaustion mechanic which would eventually debuff a player’s stats should they spend too much time in the Tatarus will be removed. And you will no longer de-level an already established social link.
Combat wise we expect many of the systems from Persona 5 to make a return. Things like the Baton Pass or special skills being available via Social Links should definitely be here.
We also expect the Island of Iwatodai to be expanded upon. Compared to newer entries in the franchise, Persona 3’s city was rather small and there wasn’t much to see and do outside of social links. Persona 3 Reload might actually reenvision the social gameplay of the original but it might come at the cost of tone which the original excelled at.
